Semax(Cas 80714-61-0) Usage

Description

Semax is a heptapeptide and synthetic analogue of a fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), ACTH (4-10), of the following amino acid sequence: Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro (MEHFPGP in single-letter form).

Uses

Semax is a synthetic peptide, derived from adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), used primarily for its nootropic and neuroprotective effects. It is known to enhance cognitive functions, such as memory, learning, and attention, making it beneficial in treating various neurological conditions, including stroke, cognitive impairments, and optic nerve diseases. Semax exerts its effects by modulating the activity of the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and stimulating neurogenesis and synaptic plasticity.

Semax and Pro-Gly-Pro Activate the Transcription of Neurotrophins and Their Receptor Genes after Cerebral Ischemia

Veronika G. Dmitrieva, Oksana V. Povarova, Veronika I. Skvortsova, Svetlana A. Limborska, Nikolai F. Myasoedov & Lyudmila V. Dergunova

, Cellular and Molecular Neurobiology, Volume 30, pages 71–79, (2010)

We have shown for the first time that both Semax and PGP activate the transcription of neurotrophins and their receptors in the cortex of rats subjected to pMCAO. The profiles of transcription alteration under PGP and Semax treatment were partially overlapped.

Experimental substantiation of application of Semax as a modulator of immune reaction on the model of “social” stress

M. A. Samotrueva, A. L. Yasenyavskaya, V. Kh. Murtalieva, O. A. Bashkina, N. F. Myasoedov, L. A. Andreeva & A. V. Karaulov

, Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, Volume 166, pages 754–758, (2019)

We studied immunocorrecting effects of Semax (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro) on the model of “social” stress caused by sensory contact and intermale confrontation. Functional activity of the immune system of laboratory animals was evaluated in standard immunopharmacological tests: delayed-type hypersensitivity reaction, direct agglutination test, latex test for studying phagocytic activity of peripheral blood neutrophils, changes in differential leukocyte count, and weight of immunocompetent organs.
