Etizolam was first reported by the EMCDDA in 2011 and became internationally controlled in 2017 [45,46], prior to its inclusion in Schedule IV of the 1971 Convention on Psychotropic Substances, in 2020 at the Commission on Narcotic Drugs Sixty-third session [47]. It has consistently been identified by the WEDINOS drug checking laboratory, based in the UK (Welsh Emerging Drugs & Identification of Novel Substances) since 2013. It is a thienodiazepine analogue of triazolo 1,4-benzodiazepines and is structurally similar to fluclotizolam.
